Freelance Invoice Generator - Free, Create & Manage Professional Invoices Online
Features
About this tool
Free Freelance Invoice Generator - Multiple Invoices, 9 Templates, 60+ Currencies, PDF Download
Create and manage professional, client-ready invoices directly in your browser - no account, no watermark, no subscription. The generator supports multiple invoices at once, nine design templates, over 60 currencies, twelve Google Fonts, and a full export/import system so your billing data is always portable.
Unlike most online invoice generators, this tool runs fully in your browser - no data is uploaded, ensuring complete privacy for your clients and financial details.
Multiple invoices in one place. The tab strip below the toolbar shows all your invoices. Click "+ New" to create another invoice - the number auto-increments (INV-001, INV-002, INV-003-). Switch between invoices by clicking their tab; the active invoice is saved automatically before loading the next. Delete any invoice with the - button on its tab. All invoices persist across sessions via auto-save to your browser's IndexedDB — a structured browser database with no 5 MB storage cap, so even invoices with large embedded logos are stored reliably.
Export and import your data. Click "? Export" to download all invoices as a JSON backup file. Click "? Import" to restore from that file on any browser or device. This makes migrating to a new machine, sharing invoice templates with a team member, or maintaining an offline billing archive completely seamless.
Nine design templates. The horizontal template strip at the bottom of the preview pane lets you switch designs instantly: Classic, Minimal, Bold, Sidebar, Executive, Gradient, Corporate, Retro, and Modern. Every template adapts to your chosen accent color and font, so the preview shows exactly how the PDF will look. Bold uses a full-width color-block header; Sidebar places your contact details in a vertical panel; Executive uses a dark charcoal header for a premium look; Retro renders a bordered, typewriter-style layout.
12 Google Fonts. Choose from Inter, Roboto, Open Sans, Lato, Montserrat, Poppins, DM Sans, Nunito, Raleway, Playfair Display, Merriweather, or Source Sans 3. The font loads dynamically and is used in both the live preview and the downloaded PDF - no discrepancy between what you see and what the client receives.
60+ currencies across 6 regions. Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific, South Asia, Middle East, and Africa currencies are all available via grouped dropdown. A Custom option lets you enter any currency code and symbol not in the list, supporting obscure or regional currencies.
Line items, tax, and discount. Add unlimited line items with description, quantity, and rate - amounts calculate automatically. Add multiple named tax lines (GST, VAT, PST, or any label) each with their own percentage. Apply a percentage or fixed-amount discount before tax. The subtotal, each tax line, discount, and total due all appear as separate rows so the client sees a clear breakdown.
Accent color and logo. The accent color controls the invoice header, table header, and total row. Eight presets are provided plus a full hex color picker. Upload a PNG, JPG, SVG, or WebP logo - it's embedded in the PDF and saved to localStorage so you never need to re-upload it.
Before sending your first invoice, use the Freelance Rate Calculator to set a rate that covers your income, tax, and expenses. If you are a developer freelancer looking to build the skills behind your services, the React Playground and CSS Playground offer structured, interactive learning directly in your browser.
How to Use
- 1Enter your business informationFill in your name or business name, email, phone, and address in the "Your Information" section. Upload a logo (PNG, JPG, SVG, or WebP) - it appears in the live preview instantly and is embedded in every PDF you download. Your information and logo are auto-saved and will be here next time you visit.
- 2Add the client's detailsFill in the client's name, email, and address in the "Bill To" section. These appear on the invoice so the client can confirm it is addressed to them.
- 3Set invoice number, dates, and currencyEnter an invoice number (e.g. INV-001). Pick the issue date and due date from the date pickers. Select a currency from 60+ options organized by region, or enter a custom currency code and symbol. All amounts in the invoice use the chosen currency symbol.
- 4Choose a design template and fontIn the Appearance section, select a font from 12 Google Fonts. Then scroll the template strip at the bottom of the preview pane and click any of the 9 templates to apply it instantly. Use the accent color picker to match your brand - 8 presets or any custom hex color.
- 5Add line itemsEnter a description, quantity, and rate for each service or deliverable. The amount column (qty - rate) calculates automatically. Click "+ Add Line Item" for more rows. Empty rows with no description or rate are hidden in the preview and PDF automatically.
- 6Set tax lines and discount (optional)In "Tax & Discount", name your tax (GST, VAT, PST, etc.) and enter its percentage. Click "+ Add Tax" to add a second tax line. Add a discount as a percentage of the subtotal or a fixed amount. Tax is applied after the discount is deducted.
- 7Add notes and payment termsWrite a client-facing note (thank-you message, project summary, milestone notes) and edit the default payment terms in "Notes & Terms". Both appear at the bottom of the invoice.
- 8Create more invoices if neededClick "+ New" in the tab strip to create another invoice for a different client or project. The invoice number auto-increments. Switch between invoices by clicking their tabs - each switch saves the current invoice first. Use "? Export" to download all invoices as a JSON backup, and "? Import" to restore them on another device.
- 9Download as PDFClick "Download / Print PDF" in the top-right corner. A new tab opens with the formatted invoice using your chosen template, font, and accent color. In the print dialog, set the destination to "Save as PDF" and click Save. The file is ready to email to your client.
- 10Back up to GitHub Gist (optional)Click the GitHub icon in the toolbar and paste a personal access token with gist scope. Your invoices sync automatically every 10 seconds after edits and are stored as a private Gist - restore on any device by entering the same token and Gist ID.
- 11Keep your Gist private — never share the URLGitHub private Gists are not truly encrypted — they are unlisted links. Anyone who has your Gist URL or Gist ID can read all your invoices without logging in. Never share your Gist URL, Gist ID, or Personal Access Token with anyone. Your invoices contain financial and client data — treat the Gist URL as a secret. For maximum privacy, skip Gist sync and use the Export and Import buttons to transfer invoice data manually instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
Fill in your business name, email, and address in the "Your Information" section. Add your client's name and address in "Bill To". Set the invoice number, date, and due date. Add line items with descriptions, quantities, and rates - the amounts calculate automatically. Optionally set tax lines and a discount. Choose a design template from the strip at the bottom of the preview pane. Click "Download / Print PDF" to open a print-ready invoice in a new tab, where you can save it as a PDF using your browser's print dialog (choose "Save as PDF" as the printer). The entire process takes under two minutes with no account required.
Yes - the tab strip below the toolbar lets you create and manage as many invoices as you need. Click "+ New" to add a new invoice (the number auto-increments: INV-001, INV-002, INV-003-). Click any tab to switch invoices - your current invoice is saved automatically before the switch. Each invoice has its own line items, client details, design template, currency, font, and accent color. Delete an invoice with the - button on its tab. All invoices are saved to your browser's IndexedDB and persist across sessions.
Click "? Export" in the tab strip to download all your invoices as a single JSON file (invoices-backup.json). This file contains every invoice's full data - client details, line items, taxes, design settings, and logos. To restore, click "? Import", select the JSON file, and all invoices are loaded instantly. Import also supports older single-invoice backup files. This is useful for migrating to a new device, sharing invoice templates with a colleague, or keeping an offline backup of your billing history.
Click the "Download / Print PDF" button in the top-right corner. A new tab opens with a print-ready, professionally formatted version of your invoice. In the print dialog that appears, select "Save as PDF" (or "Microsoft Print to PDF" on Windows) instead of a physical printer and click Save. The resulting PDF will be a high-quality A4 document with your logo, line items, totals, and payment terms - suitable for sending directly to clients. The PDF uses the same font, accent color, and template as the live preview.
Nine design templates are available: Classic (accent-colored header with full-width table), Minimal (clean typographic layout with thin lines), Bold (large color-block header), Sidebar (vertical colored sidebar with white content area), Executive (dark charcoal header with accent highlights), Gradient (header fades from accent color to dark), Corporate (split header with colored number panel), Retro (bordered box with typewriter-style layout), and Modern (top accent stripe with left-bordered bill-to block). Each template reacts to your chosen accent color and font. Switch between templates instantly using the horizontal scrollable strip at the bottom of the preview pane.
Yes - twelve Google Fonts are available in the Appearance section: Inter, Roboto, Open Sans, Lato, Montserrat, Poppins, DM Sans, Nunito, Raleway, Playfair Display, Merriweather, and Source Sans 3. Select a font from the dropdown and the live preview updates immediately. The selected font is also used in the downloaded PDF, so what you see in the preview matches the PDF exactly. Serif fonts like Playfair Display and Merriweather work well for law or consulting invoices; geometric sans-serifs like Montserrat and Poppins suit creative agencies.
Yes - click "Upload Logo" in the "Your Information" section and select an image file (PNG, JPG, SVG, or WebP). The logo appears instantly in the live preview on the right and will be included in the PDF. For best results, use a PNG with a transparent background so the logo blends cleanly with any invoice accent color. The logo is stored in your browser and persists across sessions via auto-save - you won't need to re-upload it each time you visit.
Over 60 currencies are supported, organized by region. Americas: USD, CAD, MXN, BRL, ARS, CLP, COP, PEN. Europe: EUR, GBP, CHF, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN, CZK, HUF, RON, RUB, UAH, TRY. Asia Pacific: JPY, CNY, HKD, SGD, AUD, NZD, KRW, TWD, THB, MYR, IDR, PHP, VND. South Asia: INR, PKR, BDT, LKR, NPR. Middle East: AED, SAR, QAR, KWD, BHD, ILS. Africa: ZAR, NGN, KES, GHS, EGP, MAD, TZS, ETB. A "Custom" option lets you enter any currency code and symbol not in the list.
In the "Tax & Discount" section, each tax row has a label field and a rate field. Change the default label from "TAX" to "GST", "VAT", "PST", "HST", or any other tax name. Click "+ Add Tax" to add a second or third tax line - for example, one row for 5% GST and another for 8% PST. Each tax is calculated on the subtotal after discount and shown as a separate line in the invoice totals. Remove individual tax rows with the - button (the last row cannot be removed).
Yes - all invoice data is auto-saved to your browser's IndexedDB every time you make a change. IndexedDB has no 5 MB storage cap, so even large invoices with logos are stored reliably. The "? Auto-saved" badge in the toolbar confirms this. Your data persists across sessions and page refreshes. Nothing is ever sent to a server - everything stays on your device. For a portable backup that works across devices or browsers, use the "? Export" button to download a JSON file. Importing this file on another device fully restores all your invoices.
Yes - in the "Tax & Discount" section, enter a discount value and choose the discount type: "%" for a percentage discount (e.g., 15 for 15% off the subtotal) or the currency symbol for a fixed amount discount (e.g., 50 to deduct a flat amount). The discount is applied to the subtotal before tax, and the discounted amount is shown as a line item in the totals section of the invoice so the client can see the savings clearly.
There is no limit to the number of line items. Click "+ Add Line Item" to add as many rows as needed. Each row has a Description (text), Qty (quantity, supports decimals), and Rate (unit price). The Amount column calculates automatically as Qty - Rate. Remove any row with the - button. For projects billed at a flat rate, set Qty to 1 and Rate to the total amount. For hourly billing, set Qty to the number of hours and Rate to your hourly rate.
Standard freelance payment terms include: (1) Payment due date - typically "Net 30" (due within 30 days) or "Net 15" for faster payment; (2) Accepted payment methods - bank transfer (include account details separately), PayPal, Stripe, or check; (3) Late payment policy - many freelancers charge 1.5-2% per month on overdue balances; (4) Currency - especially important for international clients; (5) Dispute resolution - how billing disagreements should be handled. The tool pre-fills a basic terms template that you can edit in the "Notes & Terms" section.
Yes - use the GitHub Gist backup in the toolbar. Paste a GitHub personal access token (gist scope only) and click Sync Now. Invoices auto-sync every 10 seconds after edits. On another device, paste the same token and Gist ID to restore all your invoices.
Yes — treat your Gist URL as a secret. GitHub "private" Gists are not encrypted — they are unlisted links. Anyone who has your Gist URL or Gist ID can read all your invoices without needing a GitHub login. Never share your Gist URL, Gist ID, or Personal Access Token with anyone. Your invoices contain financial and client data — if you need maximum privacy with no data leaving your device, skip Gist sync and use the Export and Import buttons to transfer invoice data manually instead.
Yes — for freelancers who need professional-looking PDF invoices with line items, tax calculation, and client details, this tool is a direct free alternative to Invoice Ninja, Zoho Invoice, and even Stripe Invoicing for one-off invoice generation. No subscription, no login, no data stored on any server — invoices are generated entirely in your browser and downloaded as PDF.
